You Need an Emotional Outlet!

An emotional outlet allows you to pour your focus into an activity that brings you joy and satisfaction. Let this be a way to relieve stress in your life. Forget about your career, forget about school work that isn’t completed yet, forget about any responsibilities that overwhelm you. You’ll be able to perform more productively after you’ve taken a break to give your body and mind time to reset.

If you’re having trouble finding an emotional outlet, like I did, don’t give up. The right thing will come. It’s important to try out many different activities to find one that suits you. I was so overwhelmed with stress that all of the outlets I tried just enhanced my anger and annoyed me more. Once I found some things to do that I actually enjoy, it was such a relief to be able to drop my responsibilities and do something that made me happy, that made my brain work differently. Activating that creative part of your brain can be really soothing and calming especially after spending hours pulling out your hair over the work you’ve been so locked in on.

Some ideas you may want to try out could be:

-exercising

-drawing

-writing

-painting

-practicing sports

-martial arts

-doing your makeup

-organizing

-redecorating

-and so many more.. You just have to get creative!

There’s something out there for everyone, don’t get discouraged if you don’t find your niche immediately. It took me months. But it’s so worth having an outlet to just release your feelings out on. Putting all of your focus into something that is less of a chore and more of a fun activity is seriously beneficial to your mental health.

Reminder: It’s okay to take a break- in fact, it’s healthy to! There is no reason to force yourself to do work that makes you miserable, and definitely not for the majority of your time each day.  Respect yourself and your brain. Taking some time to relax and unwind is just as important for your overall health as eating healthy is. Never overlook your mental health. You can do this, but you can do it in 20 minutes after you’ve reset your brain and taken a break.
