Montréal Travel Guide

My boyfriend and I drove up to Montréal, Canada from our home in CT this past January and it was one of my favorite road trips I’ve been on. We went in the winter so it was obviously very cold there but it was really cool to experience a true winter since Connecticut hasn’t been getting very cold lately. Montréal is a beautiful city especially if you’re a lover of architecture like me!

Where to Stay

Airbnb will always be my go-to for lodging. There are so many options that are way cheaper than hotels while also being more private and relaxing. This is also a good way to get local tips from people who live in the area which I always appreciate. There are hundreds of options in Montréal for less than $20 a night.

Things to Do

Mont Royal-  This park has a ton of things to do in the winter. On the drive up to the top of the mountain there is a breath-taking     panoramic view of the city of Montéal  which is a must-see. They have an outdoor ice skating loop which you can use for free if you bring your own skates. You can rent skates as well if you don’t have your own. They also have a four lane sledding hill that you can use for free if you bring your own sled. The four lanes are divided by snow barriers to prevent sled crashes and each trail is at a different angle so if you want to go faster or slower, there are options. I saw plenty of children and toddlers sledding here as well so it’s very family-friendly. Alongside the sledding there is a separate area for tubing which you have to pay for but definitely would be worth it because it’s so fun. They have a bunch of trails around the property that people walk, run, cross-country ski, and snow-shoe on too. This park is great for couples, friends, and families with plenty to do and see. The park is open all year round so you’ll have lots to do during any season!

Old Montréal- The stone buildings and cobblestone streets in this part of the city make for a great day out with cute little shops and plenty of photo-ops. La Grande roue de Montréal, the tallest ferris wheel in Canada, can be found at the Old Port of Montréal. The ferris wheel is open to the public, I believe it’s around $25 per adult and $19-$22 for kids depending on their age, and it will provide you with an indescribable view. There is a skating rink near the ferris wheel in the winter and the Saint Lawrence River is right nearby. Definitely stop into some of the shops to get a souvenir from this beautiful city. And if you go in the winter be sure to wear layers on layers because, I promise, it’s gonna be cold.

We only stopped in Montréal for a couple of days, there are many other things to do in this city that we will have to go back for. I spent most of our time here looking at buildings or ice skating and I loved it. I’d love to go back in the summer to see the botanical gardens and appreciate the city when it has colorful plants and trees.

This city is one of the cleanest in Canada which makes it even more valuable. To be able to breathe in a city without feeling like you’re inhaling thick clouds of pollution is a blessing that I didn’t know of until I went here! You’re definitely gonna want to explore this part of Québec for yourself!
